Man of Steel Top Five - The Stats

The top five contenders for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel at this stage of the season were revealed earlier this evening, on Man of Steel – The Panel, a new show hosted by Brian Carney, exclusive and free on SuperLeague+.

These are:

1- Lachlan Miller (Rhinos)

2- Jez Litten (Robins)

3- Tyrone May (Robins)

4- Brodie Croft (Rhinos)

5- Daryl Clark (Saints)

Wondering why? Their stats say it all!

Let’s take a look at what the players from this current Man of Steel shortlist have been up to in Rounds 1-9 of the 2026 Betfred Super League…

Treble winners Hull KR have two individuals recognised by The Panel – and it’s two pivotal players in their spine.

Playmaker Tyrone May has been masterfully pulling the strings in the halves for the Robins, whilst Jez Litten continues to prove why is he one of the top hookers in the competition.

Did you know that no player has assisted more tries in the 2026 Super League campaign than May (13)? He's made four assists in a game twice in that stretch; no other player has done so more than once!

In addition, no player has made more runs from dummy half this season than Litten (51), while only Daryl Clark (510m), also named by the Man of Steel Panel, has run for more metres from dummy half than Litten (478m) this campaign.

Hull KR's number 9 has also made 11 tackle breaks through the first nine rounds of the 2026 campaign, the second-most of any hooker in the competition (Clark - 19).

There’s a Rhinos duo in the initial top five, following their red-hot start to year, with Brad Arthur's side sitting top of the Betfred Super League table.

Only Brodie Croft’s teammate Maika Sivo has scored more tries than Croft himself in Super League this season (11).

Croft has failed to score in just one appearance (Bulls) this season, however he did pick up an assist in that match.

Lachie Miller has made the most tackle breaks (70) and most tackle breaks per game (7.8) of any player this Super League season.

In fact, Miller has made 10+ tackle breaks in a game on three occasions this Super League season, one of only two players to do so more than once (Olly Ashall-Bott of Toulouse Olympique - 3).

Miller has made more runs (206) than any other players in Super League this season, also ranking first for kick returns (62) and tackle evasion rate (74%, min. 20 tackles faced).

He is also the second top metre maker of the competition with 1500+ metres made in the opening nine rounds.

Daryl Clark is the fifth player in the mix, with St Helens also having taken the 2026 season by storm.

Clark has registered more metres from dummy half than any other player this season, being the only one to break the 500-metre mark!

The veteran hooker has also broken the most tackles (19) and completed the most offloads (10) of anyone in his position.
