Round 10 Round Up

Round 10 got underway with Hull KR hosting Castleford Tigers, where a rampant Robins made it five wins on the spin.

The champions continued their fine form at Sewell Group Craven Park on Thursday Night, running in nine tries against a struggling Tigers side.

Karl Lawton opened the scores with his double, before Tom Amone capitalised on a Cas mistake to cross for a third Robins try.

Tom Davies then added a fourth before the break, giving the hosts a comfortable 24-0 advantage.

In the second half, forwards Elliot Minchella and Dean Hadley combined to send Hadley over, whilst Mikey Lewis and Joe Burgess got on the scoresheet, and a dazzling Davies completed his hat-trick with a string of fantastic finishes in the corner.

Only Krystian Mapapalangi could manage a consolation score for the visitors, as Willie Peters' men closed the gap at the top of the Betfred Super League table (50-6).

It was victories for the home sides under the Friday Night Lights.

Leeds Rhinos maintained their place at the top of the tree with a 40-22 win over West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield Trinity.

The Rhinos always led starting with tries from Maika Sivo and Kallum Watkins, before Oli Pratt brought Wakefield into the contest.

Sivo's second soon pushed Leeds ahead once more, and despite a persistent challenge from the visitors, including a powering over from Tray Lolesio and two brilliant finishes from Jayden Myers in the corner, Brad Arthur's men proved too strong.

Jake Connor's interception sent Brodie Croft away in a defining moment of the game, and this was followed by Sivo strolling in for his fourth hat-trick of the year and Croft then added further icing on the cake.

Meanwhile, St Helens ensured they'd be keeping pace with the Rhinos at the top after beating York Knights, 40-16.

An opening try from Good Friday hero and loanee Bill Leyland and two tries from Owen Dagnall built Saints a 16-0 lead inside 20 minutes.

But York rallied impressively and got back in the game as Jesse Dee crossed twice in quick succession to reduce the deficit to just six points at the break.

It was a valiant effort from Mark Applegarth's men, with the score-line staying the same until the final quarter, before Alex Walmsley went over a game-breaking try.

From then on, it was all Saints, who kicked on with further tries from Jack Welsby on his return from injury, Jake Davies and Nene Macdonald.

York had the final say through Scott Galeano, but it was the Red V who came out as Round 10 winners.

On Saturday, there was a triple-header of Super League fixtures, with Wigan Warriors finally ending their four-match losing streak against an injury-stricken Bradford Bulls.

Young Noah Hodkinson scored a hat-trick in front of his home crowd, whilst Jai Field crossed for two and Zach Eckersley and Brad O'Neill came up with a try each.

George Marsden also made his Warriors debut in the halves at the age of 17, and hugely impressed in Matt Peet's side (38-14).

Zac Fulton's effort and Ethan Ryan's double were all the Bulls could respond with.

Saturday evening saw Leigh Leopards triumph in the south of France against Catalans Dragons. It was an entertaining affair at Stade Gilbert Brutus, with both sides taking it in turns to lead throughout the 80 minutes.

Two of Super League's all-time top try scorers Josh Charnley and Tommy Makinson both dotted down twice for their respective teams.

Toby Sexton also got the French side on the board, but it was Joe Ofahengaue who scored a decisive try for Leigh late on, before Owen Trout and Frankie Halton's tries, as well as Adam Cook's drop goal, sealed a Leopards win - and what is their third on the bounce (18-33).

It was an easy visit to Huddersfield Giants for Warrington Wolves, who did more than enough in the first half to come away with the two points.

The Wolves scored five tries in the first forty, from Albert Hopoate, Toby King, Josh Smith, Sam Stone and Joe Philbin.

History was also made for veteran Marc Sneyd, who moved second in the all-time Super League goal scoring charts - replacing former Huddersfield player Danny Brough - with only Kevin Sinfield now ahead of him.

With this 4-34 victory, Sam Burgess' men move into the third place in the table, and just two points behind the Saints and the Rhinos, ahead of Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Finals week.

Toulouse Olympique caused a shock in Sunday's Super League clash, as Hull FC fell to a 4-12 defeat on home soil.

Sylvain Houles' side finally ended their seven-game losing run, and it came off the back of a valiant effort in defence.

Two Toulouse tries in ten minutes put the French side ahead as Olly Ashall-Bott raced away to touch down before Joe Cator extended the visitors' lead.

The Black & Whites hit back via Tom Briscoe in the corner, but simply could not break down Toulouse's defensive line, in what unfolded as a scoreless and bruising second half.

This is Toulouse's first ever victory over Hull FC and lifts them off the bottom of the table.

The Betfred Super League will return on Thursday 14 May for Round 11, with the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Finals taking place this weekend.
