BWSL: Round 6 Round Up

Leaders Wigan Warriors continued on their unbeaten run on Saturday (27 June) after edging local rivals St Helens in front of a home audience.

The Warriors headed into the break with a narrow 22-16 lead after Eva Hunter made it over twice, added to by Anna Davies and Izzy Rowe.

Faye Gaskin levelled the game when she added the points to Rachel Woosey’s try shortly after the break, but it was the last time Saints were able to get onto the scoreboard after strong defensive efforts from Wigan.

The Warriors headed back over in the 64th minute through Mary Coleman to go four points ahead and continued to defend the rest of the game to finish 32-28.

Leeds Rhinos also continued their winning streak, reaching their fifth consecutive win after an empathic victory against Leigh Leopards at the weekend.

The Rhinos prevented the Leopards from getting any points on the board after huge defensive and attacking efforts saw them rack up 72 points against their opponents. 

Their confident attack, which included braces for Mel Howard, Olivia Whitehead, Ruby Walker and Amelia Hirst, sees the Rhinos head into the final round remaining in second place in the table.  

Also preventing their opponents from adding to the scoreboard were York Valkyrie who took on Featherstone Rovers at Post Office Road.

The Valkyrie headed over nine times on Saturday to make it 0-44, even preventing any points from the Rovers when Amelie Lenham headed to the sin bin for a bad tackle on Featherstone's Liv Grace.

The final game of the weekend was another close battle between Huddersfield Giants and Barrow Raiders.

After some strong performances already this season, the Giants head into the final week having added another win to their tally.

The Raiders headed into the break with a narrow lead at 10-14 and continued to fight into the second half.

But the Giants had a huge second through Faye Barraclough whose impressive four tries meant they captured the win after building a lead the Raiders could not catch up to in their final minutes.
