Betfred Wheelchair Super League Play-Offs begin this weekend
28 Aug 2025

This Saturday (30 August) sees the Play-Offs for the Betfred Wheelchair Super League commence featuring Halifax Panthers, London Roosters, Wigan Warriors and Hull FC.
The Play-Offs will take place over three consecutive weekends starting in Manchester, before moving to Nottingham (6 September) and culminating in Hull (13 September).
The top two clubs in the mini-table will qualify for the 2025 Betfred Wheelchair Super League Grand Final at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, on Sunday 28 September (KO 5.30pm).
Round 8 gets underway in Manchester this weekend.
London Roosters face Wigan Warriors (KO 2pm). The two previously met in Round 6 where a strong Roosters defence prevented the Warriors from putting any points on the board. The Roosters are looking to leave their mark on the Warriors again as they battle for a place in their first Wheelchair Super League Grand Final.
Following that showdown, Hull FC meet Halifax Panthers (KO 4pm). The Panthers finished the regular season at the top of the table with their strong points difference securing them the League Leaders’ Shield ahead of the equally undefeated London Roosters.
Hull FC and Halifax Panthers met earlier this year in Round 2 where the Panthers put on a dominant display. With almost every player leaving with points on the board, including seven tries and 14 goals from current IRL Golden Boot winner Rob Hawkins, Halifax left with a 104-10 victory.
Leeds Rhinos, Sheffield Eagles and the Edinburgh Giants will also make appearances across the Play-Offs weekends as they prepare for the 2026 season.
Sheffield Eagles will play Edinburgh Giants on Saturday (KO 12pm). The Eagles, who finished the 2025 season without a win, are looking for redemption against the Giants after their previous match-up marked Edinburgh’s first victory since joining the league. The Giants are hoping for a strong performance to carry forward the momentum of their final match into next year’s season.
Ahead of this weekend’s games, we caught up with London Roosters player Jason Owen to see how he feels about the end of the season:
“2025 has been the best Super League yet with Edinburgh and Sheffield joining the competition.
“The Play-Offs add a further exciting dimension, especially with the four clubs coming together over three consecutive weekends leaving the top two to battle it out.”
Of the three cities, Owen is most excited to bring the sport to Nottingham to showcase to a new audience.
“The facilities at the David Ross Sports Centre are outstanding and it’s a great central location with the added opportunity of sharing the sport to a new area.”
The Roosters have had a positive season so far, reaching the play-offs undefeated.
“Leeds away was a dominant performance for us. We’d had a good season until then but London Roosters went up a level on that day.”
But Owen doesn’t let a dominant performance distract him from the next.
“A personal highlight for me is always the next match. Then the next one.”
To win the Wheelchair Super League would be historic for the Roosters, who are yet to make it to the Grand Final. For Jason, it would mark a worthy end to what has been a great season.
“It would be the perfect end to the season. It would reflect all the dedication the players, coach and background staff have put in.”
