Round 3 Preview

Round 3 is here! Are you ready? Once again ALL six games will be available to watch LIVE, as we preview the third round of the 2024 Betfred Super League campaign…

Friday 1 March

St Helens v Leigh Leopards (20.00) - Sky Sports

There are three games taking place on Friday night, with St Helens v Leigh Leopards broadcast live on Sky Sports Action. Paul Wellens' men will be looking to further lay down their marker of intent in 2024, as they search for their third consecutive win of the campaign - following a hammering of Huddersfield and strong win over London in the first two rounds.

Saints will be without Matty Lees and Tee Ritson for this game, but into the 21-man squad comes Konrad Hurrell, and Noah Stephens - the 19-year-old prop's first time in the senior 21-man declaration.

Adrian Lam's Leopards will come into this Round 3 clash raring to go, after sitting out in Round 2 whilst Wigan Warriors competed in the World Club Challenge. The Leopards will be hoping to claim their first two points of the season but will be without two of their stars in Tom Amone (one-match suspension) and Edwin Ipape (side-lined due to injury).

Leigh will be seeking their first away win against St Helens since 1982 at Knowsley Road, with the Saints having won their last 13 home meetings against them. Could this all be set to change on Friday, or will history continue to repeat itself?

Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants (20.00) - Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Ian Watson has selected his first choice Giants spine as they travel to the DW Stadium on Friday night to face the newly-crowned World Club Champions. Huddersfield on the other hand, will be looking to right their wrongs from last week, having suffered a disappointing 0-28 defeat to St Helens on home soil.

The Warriors will be buzzing on the back of an emphatic World Club Challenge victory over Penrith Panthers and Matt Peet has made just two changes to his 21-man squad for Round 3. Wigan are boosted by Luke Thompson who comes back into the team this week, alongside Jack Farrimond - as they replace Mike Cooper and Kruise Leeming.

Warrington Wolves v Castleford Tigers (20.00) - Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

The Wolves are at home again this week, as they look to make it two from two when they welcome the Tigers to the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Round 2 saw the Wolves triumph in their home opener against Hull FC and register their first win of the Sam Burgess era. Young Leon Hayes is also expected to keep his starting spot as George Williams remains side-lined with an ankle injury.

The Tigers, however, are still searching for their first win of 2024. They are on the road once more this Friday, after falling short to the Red Devils in Round 2 - a match that unfolded into a close and nail-biting contest. But Castleford will be without their key man and playmaker Danny Richardson for Round 3, as he misses out after a failed HIA at Salford. Luis Johnson is included in the squad instead, and head coach Craig Lingard keep the remainder of the team the same.

There isn't much to separate these two sides in recent meetings, although the Wolves romped to an 11 try victory against the Tigers the last time these two sides met. Who will take the spoils in Round 3?

Saturday 2 March

Leeds Rhinos v Catalans Dragons (17.30) - Sky Sports

Fast forward to Saturday and the Rhinos entertain Catalans Dragons at AMT Headingley Stadium, in what is set to be an electric encounter. Steve McNamara's Dragons will be determined to continue their fine run of form, whilst Leeds will be looking to bounce back from last week's loss against Hull KR.

The Rhinos will be without their Round 1 match-winner Sam Lisone due to a three-match suspension, but will be looking to reiterate the success of their previous home game, in which they beat Salford in a fiery contest.

The Dragons have enjoyed a perfect start to 2024 following a tight 16-10 win over Warrington Wolves in Round 1, followed by a 0-34 triumph against London Broncos, but can they make it three from three?

Salford Red Devils v Hull KR (17.30) - BBC iPlayer, Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Two of Super League's entertainers go head-to-head on Saturday as Salford Red Devils host Hull KR at the Salford Stadium. Paul Rowley's men will look to make it two on the bounce following victory to Castleford last Sunday, whereas the Robins will look to register a trio of wins.

Willie Peters' side are boosted by the return of Dean Hadley, Matt Parcell and Sam Luckley and have their starting line-up ready to go, and Salford have named an unchanged 21-man squad for this clash. Could it be a close one?

Hull FC v London Broncos (15.00) - Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

And it's set to be a nervy encounter over at the MKM Stadium this weekend, as a winless Hull FC are at home to a winless London Broncos, as both sides will go in search of their first win of the season when they meet in Sunday's Round 3 match.

The Black and Whites have been dealt another huge blow as they will be without versatile Liam Sutcliffe after he was handed a two-match suspension. He adds to the long list of players unavailable for the foreseeable. London, who lost out to Catalans Dragons last Friday, have named a similar 21-man squad as they aim to take the much-needed two points.

Tony Smith's men are undefeated in their last 11 meetings with London/Harlequins and this weekend will see these side's first encounter since 2019. But who will claim their first win on Sunday?
