Voono must-haves

Betfred Super League is spicing up fantasy league gaming for 2024 with Voono, a fresh addition alongside the traditional Fantasy Super League game.

Voono rekindles the joy of licensed card collecting merged with fantasy league mechanics, offering fans the chance to collect favourite Super League players.

This season, players can compete for weekly rewards, including limited edition cards and exclusive Super League merchandise.

As the season kick-off nears, we present key player recommendations to enhance your fantasy squad, categorised into top stars, hidden gems, and promising young talents.

Super League Stars

Super League Stars represent the top-tier players who dominate statistical leaderboards. These players are essential additions to your Voono fantasy squad, bringing unmatched skill and consistency to the game.

Cameron Smith

The top dog in Super League Fantasy gaming. Cameron Smith was head and shoulders above the chasing pack in 2023.

In attack and defence, the newly appointed Rhinos skipper consistently delivered last year. He played 26 regular season games - missing just one - and was on the field for a staggering average of 72 minutes.

Smith is a talented middle forward with a remarkable work rate. Defensively, he made 996 tackles - the second most across the competition - at an impressive 89.5% completion rate.

He ran for 2412 gainline metres from 448 carries in attack, as well as contributing seven tries and five try assists.

As far as must-have players go, Smith should be top of your card list - and his overall ratings reflect that. A Voono score of 80 in attack, 88 in defence and a consistency rating of 87 tell you everything you need to know about this elite Fantasy forward.

Jack Welsby

Super Jack is a star both on the pitch and in the Fantasy world. He's a set-and-forget full back who consistently delivers results.

Welsby has cemented himself as one of the most talented players in world rugby league and the scary part - he's just getting started.

The Englishman missed just one game last year and ended the season with 36 try contributions thanks to 11 tries and 25 assists - the second most across Super League.

He was also in the top 20 players for a host of attacking stats including tackle busts (130 - 1st), offloads (44 - 2nd), clean breaks (24 - 5th) and gainline metres (2751 - 14th). It should come as no surprise that Welsby scored a huge 86 overall rating in attack.

The Saints number one should offer huge value again in 2024 - will his card be on your side?

George Williams

Williams began 2023 in emphatic fashion. He was central to Warrington's fast start to the season and led the voting for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel award.

The England captain will be integral to the Wolves again in 2024 - so expect big things from him when the season gets underway.

He finished the 2023 season with 11 tries and 20 assists. He also ran for 2993 gainline metres and made 95 tackle busts. He's a half-back that enjoys being in the thick of the action and thrives with the ball in hand.

Whether it's creating chances for the players around him, or taking on the defensive line himself, Williams is at the forefront of Warrington's attack. Will his card be in your plans this season?

Hidden Gems

Sure, anyone can spot the stars. But what about the must-haves that slip under the radar? The criminally underrated players who will offer huge points potential in your Voono Fantasy line-up.

Rhyse Martin

An unsung hero at the Rhinos. The always reliable and impressively versatile Rhyse Martin is a Fantasy dream.

A talented attacker and staunch defender, Martin is also a razor-sharp goal kicker who offers a fantastic point of difference in the forward pack.

He was a top five goal kicker in 2023 despite playing in an under-performing Leeds side. The Rhinos have brought in major reinforcements this year and will be a threat across the park - allowing Martin to shine with the boot even more.

His 85 rating in attack and 84 consistency speaks volumes for Martin's impact - and he missed just one game all year. He's a proven points scorer who should be on your Voono Fantasy radar.

Tui Lolohea

2023 was a frustrating year for the Giants. They failed to reach the top six and recorded the third lowest points scoring total across the competition.

However, Tui Lolohea still delivered. He finished the year with six tries and 19 try assists, as well as being a top 10 tackle buster with 95 across the season.

Lolohea is a ball running half-back at heart. He carried the ball 489 times last season, the sixth most across Super League. And with incoming half-back Adam Clune set to take the reigns as Huddersfield’s new general, it will free up Lolohea to do what he does best.

If the Giants can reach their potential in 2024, expect a reinvigorated Lolohea to shine.

Deon Cross

The ever-reliable Deon Cross is an exciting option for Voono players this year.

Known for his staunch defensive attributes which see him rarely beaten out wide, Cross is a player who regularly goes under the radar but a shoe in within the Fantasy world.

He was a Linchpin in Salford's side last year, featuring in every game - the only Red Devil to do so.

Alongside his defensive efforts which included 345 tackles, he also made 69 tackle breaks.

The Red Devils outside back is a no thrills, consistent performer who is a worthy card in your Voono line up.

Young Guns

The next generation. The emerging talent set to take Super League by storm. Believe it or not, these players are yet to reach their prime. They are the future stars of the sport who are aged 23 and under.

Mikey Lewis

Mikey Lewis is a maverick and a very hot card on Voono with people eagerly waiting his card release imminently. The Robins new number seven has shown heaps of potential in recent years, culminating in his recent international exploits last Autumn.

The talented half-back is going from strength to strength – and is set to take his game to new heights in 2024.

He featured 27 times for Hull KR last season, scoring 12 tries and creating 19 more, as well making 2433 run metres and 95 tackle busts, highlighting his dangerous and effective running game.

With the experienced Tyrone May accompanying Lewis in the halves, the Robins young gun will have ample opportunity to showcase his endless talent.

Jack Broadbent

Jack Broadbent showcased his impressive versatility in 2023. The Castleford youngster featured at full-back, centre and even in the halves during a season of inconsistencies at Cas.

Despite a disappointing year for the club, Broadbent remained consistent. He stepped up and showed maturity beyond his years, finding his feet during his maiden year at the Jungle.

Don't be surprised to see him improve even more this season and add to his 2023 tally of five tries, four assists, seven linebreak assists and 49 tackle breaks.

He's set to lock in a centre spot and should thrive in a Castleford side that have put their faith in youth ahead of the 2024 season.

Brad O'Neill

Brad O'Neill firmly established himself in 2023. Still only 21, he featured 24 times during Wigan's title winning campaign and cemented his place as the sides starting dummy half.

O'Neills tenacious defence saw him complete 619 tackles last year - an average of 21 per game - with a 91.7% efficiency rate.

It's frightening to think that the Warriors youngster is only going to get better. Playing behind a dominant Wigan forward pack, O'Neill's attacking threat should vastly improve too.

Far from the finished article, O'Neill offers huge Fantasy upside - and should be a card hot on your Voono radar.
