Round 20 round-up
31 Jul 2023
Round 20 of Betfred Super League got underway in Huddersfield on Thursday Night as the Giants faced Hull FC live on Sky Sports. Both sides went into the contest full of confidence after back-to-back wins as they looked to fight their way back into Play-Off contention. The Giants took an early lead through Jermaine McGillvary, but Adam Swift soon responded to bring the scores level. There was nothing to separate the two teams at the break, with the Giants getting the upper hand in the second half, earning their third win on the bounce and putting a huge dent in Hull FC's top six hopes.

The Robins were back in Super League action and spirits were high after booking their spot in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final. An impressive first half performance saw the Robins fly into a 16-0 lead with 25 minutes on the clock. The Tigers began to mount a comeback and found themselves trailing by just a converted try at half-time. However, three tries in 20 minutes saw the Robins break away in the second half, prevailing as comfortable winners.
St Helens put their Challenge Cup disappointment behind them thanks to a Round 20 win against the Rhinos. It took just three minutes for Saints to take lead through eventual Player of the Match Will Hopoate, before a Rhyse Martin try and goal put the Rhinos level. The sides remained level at the break, but a second half brace from Jack Welsby secured two valuable points for the Saints.

The Battle of the Borough took place live on Channel 4 on Saturday with both teams heading into the fixture off the back of contrasting Challenge Cup results. A hattrick from Abas Miski and a brace of tries from Bevan French helped ease the Warriors cup heartbreak and saw them leap frog their neighbours, Leigh, into second place. Both sides are now level on points and with the final run in of the season well underway, the two sides are neck and neck as they look to cement a top two finish.
The Red Devils were the latest team to fall to defeat against the top of the table Dragons, and by some margin. The French side took the lead in the 18th minute through an Adam Keighran try and he was later able to make it a brace, alongside the in-form Tom Johnstone. The Red Devils were unable to match the Frenchmen throughout the 80 minutes with a landslide result of 42-0 in the Dragons favour.

An excellent performance from Trinity in the final game of Round 20 secured their fifth victory of the season against a struggling Warrington side. A sublime first half sent Trinity into the break with a shock but thoroughly deserved 22-0 lead.Loan signing Innes Senior was in fine form during his first Trinity appearance of the season, scoring four tries and compiling Warrington's woes.
