Round 18 Round Up

The temperature turned up a notch in Round 18 of the Betfred Super League, and here’s what happened…

On Thursday night, Hull FC moved back into the top six with a 16-10 victory over Play-Off rivals, Wakefield Trinity.

The Black & Whites earned their first home win of 2025 and their first victory at the MKM Stadium since July last year, following a superb second half comeback.

It was a tale of two halves, with Trinity taking an initial 10-0 lead through Max Jowitt’s try and three goals, but the hosts soon improved after half-time and were able to level the scores through Zak Hardaker and Jordan Rapana.

Lewis Martin then impressively overcame four Trinity defenders to power his way over the line for Hull’s match-winner, as his side leapfrogged their opponents in the table.

St Helens managed to grind out a victory at AMT Headingley Stadium in Friday’s action – making in seven in a row away at Leeds Rhinos.

Young Owen Dagnall's first half effort and a penalty goal from Saints captain Jonny Lomax were the only points of the night.

St Helens go above Leeds into fourth after their Round 18 win (0-6), while Leeds drop down to 5th.

Wigan Warriors once again found a way to win as they came from behind to beat Huddersfield Giants, 30-10 at The Brick Community Stadium.

Friday’s fixture was The Sir Billy Boston game – a game dedicated to celebrating and honouring rugby league legend Sir Billy Boston, in tribute to his recently awarded knighthood.

But it looked as though the Giants had come to spoil the party when early tries from Tui Lolohea and Jacob Gagai stunned the champions.

But the Warriors needn’t have worried, as they went on to score 30 unanswered points in what was a truly dominant staging in the second stanza.

Wigan dotted down five times through Christian Wade on his debut and Jake Wardle’s sensational double; as well as Tyler Dupree and Junior Nsemba.

Their victory sees them narrow the gap to just two points between 1st and 2nd in the table with nine games left to play of the regular season...

Super League Saturday saw Leigh Leopards inflict a spectacular 28-10 defeat on league leaders Hull KR, just a week after beating the champions on home soil too.

It was a stellar showing from the Leopards who conjured up tries from Ethan O'Neill, Umyla Hanley, Keanan Brand and Lachlan Lam – Lam also with three try assists as he took his try assist tally to a grand total of 27 this season.

Josh Charnley also crossed twice – becoming only the second man to reach 250 tries in the Super League era, along with the Rhinos' Ryan Hall, who has 260.

The Robins were without magic Mikey Lewis due to a failed Head Injury Assessment in the previous round, and their only response was tries from Tyrone May and Kelepi Tanginoa.

This is the first time that Hull KR have suffered back-to-back defeats in 2025.

Over in the south of France, Warrington Wolves survived a late scare from Catalans Dragons to boost their Play-Off chances.

The Wolves were in firm control with an 18-2 advantage at the break after tries from skipper George Williams, Jordy Crowther and Zack Gardner.

The Dragons fought back impressively, however, to take a 20-18 lead with just six minutes remaining on the clock.

Denive Balmforth bagged a brace, before Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet scored to set up a nail-biting finish.

Williams' masterclass continued until the very end though, as he created a remarkable try for Josh Thewlis, who won the match and clinched an important two points for his team (20-24).

Sam Burgess' men have moved level on league points with Wakefield.

Round 18 concluded with a sweet victory for Salford Red Devils – their first since March. They entertained Castleford Tigers on their home patch and were able to pick up their second win of the season to send their fans home happy (26-22).

A spirited Red Devils, who showed signs of improvement in recent weeks, racked up five tries on Sunday afternoon, with Ethan Ryan, Harvey Wilson, Joe Mellor, Esan Marsters and Chris Hankinson all on the scoresheet.

This was enough against a Tigers side low on confidence.
