Round 17 Round Up
6 Jul 2025

Here's what happened in an interesting Round 17...
The round got underway at The Jungle as Huddersfield Giants travelled to face Castleford Tigers, and it was a much stronger performance by Luke Robinson's men, who managed to claim their third win of the season.
The visitors dashed into a 12-0 lead courtesy of tries from Tui Lolohea and Sam Halsall. Their first try showcased a moment of brilliance from George Flanagan, who scored a total of 14 points on Thursday night. He evaded multiple defenders before offloading to Lolohea who raced the length of the field to touch down.
Cas quickly came back before the interval, however, with tries from George Lawler and Zac Cini to bring things level.
It was an error-strewn affair, but the second half was to be all Huddersfield, with Taane Milne crashing over in the corner who regained the lead for his side. The inspirational Flanagan then added a penalty goal, before crossing the whitewash himself in the closing stages.
A late Lolohea interception put the icing on the cake for the Giants - in what had been a collective team effort - as they bounced back from their heavy Round 16 defeat against Catalans Dragons in style (12-30).

Friday night saw arguably one of the games of the season when Leigh Leopards entertained Wigan Warriors at the Leigh Sports Village.
It was a breath-taking part three of the Battle of the Borough as the Leopards overturned the champions for a second time in 2025.
The Warriors took an 8-0 lead through Jake Wardle and an Adam Keighran penalty, but a switch in momentum in the second stanza would see Leigh go on to dominate their opponents.
Tesi Niu’s effort brought the hosts back into it, before a truly outstanding team try finished off by Edwin Ipape put the Leopards ahead for the first time.
With minutes to spare, Owen Trout scored the match-winner under the posts to round off a stunning victory.

Meanwhile, Warrington Wolves only just beat Salford Red Devils, 12-24.
A spirited Red Devils defended fiercely against Sam Burgess’ side, but two second half tries from Josh Thewlis and Stefan Ratchford would seal the win.
The Wolves are now just two points off the top six with ten regular rounds remaining...

On Saturday, St Helens made it four wins on the spin as they defeated Hull FC 6-13 at the MKM Stadium.
The Black & Whites were left still searching for their first home win in 2025 as two tries from Kyle Feldt and two goals and a drop goal from Jonny Lomax gave Saints another two points.

Then, Wakefield Trinity lifted themselves into the top six with a strong 44-6 victory over Catalans Dragons, in front of their biggest home crowd since 2013.
Trinity ran in a total of eight tries to end a 14-game losing streak against the Dragons.
Lachlan Walmsley and Josh Rourke bagged braces, while Max Jowitt, Josh Griffin, Mason Lino and Tom Johnstone also scored tries, as Catalans’ Play-Off hopes begin to wither away.

Sunday's Super League action saw Leeds Rhinos become just the second team to overcome Hull KR this season with a sensational 8-14 victory.
Brad Arthur's men stunned the current league leaders, with a sensational try from Lachlan Miller proving to be the difference.
The Rovers had taken an initial 8-0 lead through Rhyse Martin's try and Arthur Mourgue's conversion and penalty.
But the Rhinos quickly responded with Sam Lisone bustling his way over and Jake Connor's successful penalty goal, before Miller's magical match-winner - as the away side proved that they are genuine contenders in the 2025 season.
