Round 11 Preview

Betfred Super League is back after a week off for the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Finals!

It was confirmed at the weekend that Warrington Wolves and Hull KR will be the 2025 Betfred Challenge Cup Finalists and will appear at the iconic Wembley Stadium on Saturday 7 June.

But for now, attention and eyes turn back to a Super League competition that is well and truly hotting up, and here’s what to expect in Round 11…

Thursday 15 May

St Helens v Catalans Dragons (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

Round 11 will get underway at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday night when Saints welcome Catalans.

Both teams come into this game on the back of gut-wrenching losses and are level on ten league points in the table.

St Helens have lost each of their last three Super League matches by double-digit margins, whilst the Dragons endured a disappointing defeat in the Challenge Cup semis last Sunday.

The Dragons have, however, won each of their last two away fixtures.

It’s expected to be a fiery and physical battle between the two, but who will bounce back this evening and get an important victory?

Saints head coach Paul Wellens makes just one change to the last squad he declared for Magic Weekend, with outside back Dayon Sambou stepping out of the team. Hooker Jake Burns returns to the 21-man squad.

New recruit Deon Cross is in line to make his home debut following his move to join his hometown club Saints. He made his official club debut in Newcastle last time out.

There’s been a shake up in the Dragons side as Steve McNamara names a 20-man squad to travel to St Helens.

Injured, former Saint Tommy Makinson, Benjamin Garcia, and Julian Bousquet will miss this Round 11 match.

Elliott Whitehead, suspended following the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final, is also not included in the squad.

Arthur Romano returns to the Dragons' squad, as does Clément Martin. There’s also the presence of Giovanni Descalzi, a player from the reserve team, who makes his first ever appearance in the Catalans squad.

Friday 16 May

Wigan Warriors v Leigh Leopards (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

It’s almost time for the second Battle of the Borough of 2025!

A bumper crowd is expected, with the men’s fixture following Wigan Warriors Women’s Betfred Women’s Super League season opener, as part of a double-header at The Brick Community Stadium.

2nd meets 3rd, where the winner of this match will take at least second spot in the Super League table.

Last time out produced an absolute thriller – the local rivals created Super League history in a ferocious, captivating but pointless 80 minutes – finishing 0-0 at the end of normal time.

There was nothing to separate the sides, as the opening game of the 2025 Super League entered a nerve-shredding Golden Point extra-time, before Gareth O’Brien came up with the spoils – kicking a drop goal to secure Leigh’s first away win against Wigan since 1983 as the game ended 0-1.

Can we expect another fixating spectacle in Friday’s hometown head-to-head?

Patrick Mago and Jacob Douglas come into the Warriors squad in place of Abbas Miski and Tom Forber.

The Leopards have named an unchanged team from their Challenge Cup semi-final defeat, which is also their strongest – including their starting 1-13.

Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC (20.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Super League returns to AMT Headingley on Friday night as Leeds and Hull FC go head-to-head.

It’s another encounter of teams close to each other in table with Leeds having crept into fourth after their Magic WKND win and Hull sit in fifth.

Last time out saw a cricket score as the Rhinos ran riot against a youthful Black & Whites outfit back in September 2024, thrashing their opponents 68-6.

This other two meetings that year were tightly contested, however, with 18-10 and 12-18 scorelines in favour to Leeds.

In 2025, both sides have already shown promising signs as they firmly set their sights on achieving a Play-Off place.

The Rhinos are boosted by the return of three key players in Round 11 - Brad Arthur has welcomed back co-captain Cameron Smith along with Brodie Croft and Ryan Hall for this Friday's clash.

Smith has missed the last nine games after suffering an ankle injury at Salford earlier in the season whilst Croft has been out for a month. Ryan Hall missed the Magic Weekend win over St Helens but is back in contention this week.

Andy Ackers is also close to returning for selection but has missed out this week.

Meanwhile, Hull have had two changes from the 21-man squad that was named for their last outing, as Matty Laidlaw and Will Kirby drop out of the side.

Brad Fash has been back in full training this week and he could mark his comeback from a calf injury at AMT Headingley.

Young halfback Jack Charles also comes into this week’s 21-man squad.

Saturday 17 May

Hull KR v Huddersfield Giants (17.30) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Table toppers Hull KR are back on home turf after booking their place in the Challenge Cup Final last Saturday.

The Robins’ focus will now switch back to Super League for the time being, and they will be looking to continue their fine form when Huddersfield Giants pay a visit to East Hull.

Emotions were at the forefront in the previous round at Magic WKND as the Giants moved from the foot of the table following an emphatic victory over Hull FC – and in turn finally recording their first league win of 2025.

Can Luke Robinson’s men pull off another upset and go back-to-back for the first time?

Or will the Robins be ruthless like they were in their Round 3 meeting, where the Giants suffering 4-50 drubbing – their biggest ever loss to these opponents?

For Hull KR, Arthur Mourgue and Noah Booth both come back into the extended squad after being cup tied last week. Oliver Gildart drops out due to his injury, with Lee Kershaw also missing out.

For Huddersfield, Luke Robinson has numerous returnees this week to bolster his pack, with the welcome return of Harry Rushton and George King, the latter could potentially make his Giants debut after suffering an injury in pre-season.

Sunday 18 May

Wakefield Trinity v Warrington Wolves (15.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Fans are in for a treat on Sunday with two matches on show, and the afternoon will kick off as Wakefield and Warrington come up against each other in Round 11.

It’s their second meeting of the season after Trinity produced a 16-30 victory over the Wolves in Round 4.

Interestingly, Wakefield have won their last four home meetings with Warrington and it’s a fixture that’s showcased a series of high-scoring affairs in recent times.

Both teams come into this game on the front foot – with Wakefield still elated from their Magic WKND win over Castleford and Warrington having booked their place in Wembley last weekend.

The Wolves are seeking their first away win at Wakefield since 2019.

There could also be two significant milestones happening in Sunday’s game, with Trinity captain Mike McMeeken set to make his 250th Super League appearance, while Wire stalwart Ben Currie could make his 300th appearance for the Warrington club.

The Wolves will be without their star winger Matty Ashton the remainder of the 2025 season, as he has unfortunately sustained injuries to his MCL and ACL.

Castleford Tigers v Salford Red Devils (17.30) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Castleford and Salford will bring the curtain down on Round 11 on Sunday evening.

It’s going to be Salford’s second visit to the Jungle in 2025, where a close contest unfolded, and Cas pipped a 22-14 victory back in Round 4.

Will we witness another close encounter?

Salford's Ryan Brierley has scored tries in his last three games against Castleford – could be the game changer in Round 11?
