Top Six Essentials: Jowitt and Johnstone
19 Feb 2025

Have you ever thought about what things you couldn't live without?
If you were asked on the spot, what would be the first things that spring to mind? Apart from the Betfred Super League, of course!
We asked Wakefield Trinity duo and best friends Max Jowitt and Tom Johnstone ahead of their home clash with Hull KR on Thursday night (live exclusively on Sky Sports) – in the first ‘Top Six Essentials’…
Jowitt & Johnstone's Top Six Essentials:
Records point scorer Jowitt was certainly an essential in his Trinity side last year, but what are the reliable fullback's Top Six Essentials in life?

Wife
“My wife Lauren is number one – she has to be! She knows her reasons why – I can’t live without her.”
Dog
“The second essential is my dog – as much as he annoys us sometimes! He’s called Reggie and he’s a little pug; we love him.”
PlayStation
“I couldn’t live without my PlayStation 5 – does that sound weird?”
We don’t know Max…does it?
“We’re all into Fortnite at the minute – we’ve got a big group of lads playing…I think there’s about fourteen of us. They’ve redone the old game backwards, so we’re having a lot of fun with that!”
A game of Fortnite, anyone?
Barber
“My barber is an essential! My hair might be short, but it grows quick! Shout out to Yasir at Nasir's Barbers in Wakefield! He always fixes me up every one to two weeks.”
One to two weeks?! Suppose you’ve got to look good for the Sky Sports screens this year…
“How many more have I got to say? I’m quite a simple bloke – this is hard!"
Two more essentials remaining, Max...
Smash Burger
Food, we need food, don’t we? I’ll say something like a big smash burger – with bacon, pulled pork, a bit of BBQ and bit of garlic mayo on the side. There's some other stuff I'd add as well.
"Can you even put all that into one burger though?”
Maybe?
Coronation Street
“Coronation Street and a chocolate biscuit!"
But who is his favourite character?
“Good question, I don't really have a favourite character, but I'll say Chesney Brown - I like Chesney!
"We’ve just found out that it was Max Turner who started the house fire as well, but what do we think is going to happen to him?”
You'll have to tune in at 8pm tonight on ITV if you want to find out!
Back in the Red, White & Blue for 2025, Air Johnstone is ready for a big year in Super League. But apart from the Trin, what are the flying winger's Top Six Essentials?

Family
“It goes without saying – I couldn’t live without my wife Leah and my two children – they’re a token.
“My dogs are my family too – they’re called Ziggy and Vinnie. Vinnie is my little soul dog – you just know when you’ve got a soul dog.”
What is a soul dog, Tom?
“A soul dog - you get one dog in your life. They're the one you have an attachment with which no other dog can ever compare. I’ll have dogs that come before and come after, but it won’t be the same.
“My Frenchie Vinnie is my boy.”
Coffee Machine
"My coffee machine has to be at Number 2 because I couldn’t go without my coffee.
"I get my coffee bans from Recent Beans and my favourite coffee shop has to be Onward Coffee in Guiesley!"
Phone
"My phone. I don't think anybody could live without their phone. I spend a LOT of screen time just scrolling on Instagram.
"My average screen time is around six hours, but it can get up to seven or eight hours sometimes…"
Is your screen time as high as Tom’s?
PlayStation
“I’ll go the same as Max with this one - my PlayStation too – but my time on it has been limited since having my second child.
“I think I’ve been on twice in the past few months. We had an hour the other day though, didn’t we, Max?
"I'll say Gaming in general is an essential."
Eating Out
“I absolutely love going for food and finding quirky places. My favourite is Homeboy Pizza on Burley Road in Headingley, Leeds.
“You’ve got to try a Homeboy pizza if you haven’t already – my go to is a Scottie Pepperoni!”
But what does a Scottie Pepperoni consist of?
“It comes with marinara sauce, pepperoni, cheese, hot honey and a chilli drizzle – it’s sensational.”
Cap
“A cap! I always wear caps - I practically live in a cap.
"I can’t ever wear one when I’m having my photo done though, like at the Super League launch – that would mess up my hair!”
Now we can't be having that can we...
